You guys loved our last Harry Potter post about The Top 5 Most Powerful Wizards! So today, I wanted to talk about the “Must Know” spells in the wizarding world!
First, let me know in the comments what your favorite moment from the Harry Potter movies or books was!
Now, let’s get started!
Expelliarmus
Everyone knows this spell! It is probably the most well-known spell in the series! Expelliarmus is a disarming spell. This means when you use it against another wizard; it flings their wand or whatever they are holding right out of their hand!
Harry Potter himself made this spell his signature charm, and he uses it in almost every duel he is in! So next time you’re in a Wizards duel, keep this one at the top of your list!
Sectumsepra
Making its debut in Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince, Sectumsepra was a spell created by Severest Snape. This spell is a curse that profoundly cuts the target and causes severe hemorrhaging. It is a very dark spell that is typically only used on great enemies.
After using the Half-Blood Prince’s potions journal, Harry discovered the curse, which had a disclaimer written next to it that said, “For Enemies.” Harry Potter confronted Draco Malfoy about trying to curse Albus Dumbledore, and they began dueling, which ended as soon as Harry used his newfound spell, Sectumsepra.
Harry again attempts to use the curse against Snape after he murdered Dumbledore. But Snape being The Half-Blood Prince and the one who invented the spell, easily deflected it.
Accio
Accio is a handy spell, especially if you’re feeling lazy. You say Accio followed by whatever item you want (within range), and it will fly to your hands. For example, let’s say you just sat down and you left the remote all the way on the opposite side of the room, no problem! Just grab your wand and say, Accio remote, and the remote will fly directly to your hands! Easy peasy!
Riddikulus
Riddikulus is a spell that is used to defeat a Boggart! A Boggart is a creature that transforms into whatever its victims are most scared of. With the spell Riddikulus, the user can transform the Boggart into something they find humorous, taking away the power to terrorize from the Boggart!
The Riddikulus spell was taught in Professor Lupins’ class when he was the defense against the dark arts teacher in Harry Potter & The Prisoner of Azkaban.
Lumos
For those out there scared of the dark, or when you are exploring the dark halls at Hogwarts, Lumos will come in handy!
Lumos is the spell that emits a light directly from the tip of your wand. Very simple, and Harry Potter found it very useful throughout his years of exploration at Hogwarts!
