Magic is in the air, everyone! After binge-watching Harry Potter movies and the first two books on audible multiple times and going to Universal Studios to visit The Wizarding World of Harry Potter where I received my very own Elder Wand, I’ve decided to make today’s post all about the great Harry Potter series and the characters in it! Today’s topic? The top five most powerful Wizards! Let’s get right into it!
Albus Dumbledore
Dumbledore is known to be the most powerful wizard of all time by everyone in the wizarding world! Long before becoming headmaster at Hogwarts, Albus made a name for himself by defeating a very powerful dark wizard named Gellert Grindelwald! Also gained much more recognition by being a huge part of discovering the 12 uses in dragon’s blood!
Dumbledore attended Hogwarts and was a prefect, later becoming the transfiguration professor. Albus was the wielder of the all-powerful Elder Wand, which is the most powerful wand ever created. He received three Elder Wand by defeating its previous owner, Grindelwald.
Also, can we say how bad*** Dumbledore is! How he always knew what Harry and his friends were up to and helped along the way without Harry even knowing. When Albus is there, it just seems safe! I mean, he is the only wizard that Lord Voldemort is afraid of!
Alastor Moody
Alastor Moody, also known as “Mad-Eye Moody,” was a powerful defense against the dark arts wizard! The ministry of magic hired Moody to hunt down dark Wizards and place them in Azkaban! This created many enemies throughout his career, making him paranoid and more aware later in life.
Even though in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the only Moody we knew wasn’t the real one, they did such a great job with his character it almost felt like we knew him, and he became a part of the Harry Potter family really easy! He’s another character when he’s in the room; it feels safe cause you know how bad*** he is! The way he uses his walking stick as his wand is so cool and one of my favorite depictions of a wizard using magic! Moody’s occupation was called an Auror. Harry and Ron later in life become Auror’s and have been known to revolutionize the department!
Lord Voldemort
He who must not be named! The all-powerful dark wizard! Voldemort was an evil psychopath from the beginning! Throughout his years in Hogwarts, known back then as Tom Riddle, he managed to become a prefect, head boy, and have very high grades while pursuing his evil plans! Albus Dumbledore was the transfiguration professor and made it challenging for Tom to pursue his plans. Nevertheless, he managed to do what he wanted!
Voldemort split his soul into seven items and beings known as Horcruxes so that if he were defeated, he would continue to live! Voldemort gained followers throughout his life using fear and having a cause that some other evil Wizards believed in. Mostly fear, though. Eventually, Harry and his friends managed to hunt down and destroy each of the 7 Horcruxes making Voldemort weak and supple to defeat!
Gellert Grindalwald
Gellert Grindelwald was also one of the most powerful dark wizards of all time, only surpassed by Lord Voldemort. Grindelwald had a cause because he wanted to rule over the muggles claiming it to be for the greater good! But, the all-mighty Dumbledore put an end to his reign! Grindelwald was the original owner of the Elder Wand after stealing it from Gregoroviche. Grindelwald was expelled from a wizarding school in northern Scandinavia for practicing dark magic and for near-fatal attacks on other students. At the height of his power, Dumbledore confronted him, and they battled in what is known to be a legendary duel!
Severest Snape
Severest Snape was a mighty wizard but never really showed how powerful he was. He was a master of potions and defense against the dark arts, although he never was able to get the job as the dark arts professor. He is one of my favorite characters! Albus Dumbledore trusted him with his life and allowed Snape to kill him to protect Draco Malfoy’s soul and to keep Snape as an undercover death eater! He was very loyal!
Snape always protected Harry due to his love for Harry’s mother, Lily, whom he fell in love with many years ago when he attended Hogwarts! The only reason Snape seemed as though he hated Harry was because Harry looked just like his father.
Can we all agree on something that I feel no one talks about? James Potter was an ***hole! He bullied and tormented Snape for many years at Hogwarts! And he is praised for being so great!
Now that that’s off my chest! Snape is a great wizard and will always be one of my favorite characters!
